Honoring the Life and Service of Brian Francis Piercy
Brian Francis Piercy’s story began in March 1983 in Visalia, California, where he was born to Thomas F. Piercy III and Carol Berberich Piercy. Raised in Clovis, California, Brian’s passion for music took root at the age of nine when he first sat at a piano—a love that stayed with him throughout his life.
He graduated from Buchanan High School in 2001 and continued his education at Fresno Pacific University, where he spent two years studying liberal arts. It was during this time that he met Christina Perreault, who would later become his wife. The couple married in December 2006.
In 2004, Brian chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He completed his basic training and graduated from airborne school in Georgia before being stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 2005. There, he served with the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, ultimately earning the rank of staff sergeant.
Brian deployed to Afghanistan twice: first from February 2007 to April 2008, and again in August 2009. His second tour was nearing completion when, in July 2010, he was tragically killed in action during an enemy attack in the Arghandab River Valley. He was just 27 years old and only weeks away from returning home. In total, Brian courageously served 27 months in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Known for his unwavering dedication, Brian was more than a soldier—he was a respected friend, mentor, and leader. His mother shared that the soldiers in his Weapons Squad described the close bond he fostered as one of family—a camaraderie admired by others in their platoon. His patriotism and the profound impact he had on those around him continue to be remembered.
Brian is laid to rest in his hometown at Clovis Cemetery. Throughout his military career, he was recognized for his exceptional bravery and service with several prestigious awards, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
In a special tribute on May 30, 2021, NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick honored Brian’s legacy by carrying his name on car #8 during the Coca-Cola 600 as part of NASCAR’s 600 Miles of Remembrance initiative.
