They have a graduated dial that displays measurements in decimal inches with typical resolution being 0.001” or 0.005”. Select models may have a second fractional inch scale with 1/64" graduations. Dial calipers use adjustable jaws that slide along a beam to measure between two opposite sides of a tool or part. They are easier to read than vernier calipers and are commonly used in light and heavy manufacturing production, machine and woodworking shops.
