They are worn when working with liquids under pressure in petrochemical manufacturing, emergency spill response, and in some medical applications. They are highly resistant to punctures, tears, and abrasion. Garments that protect against exposure to vapors and gases have taped seams and gas-tight closures. They are worn for hazmat response when gases and vapors are a hazard.
